The 47-year-old tactician believes the glory days will soon return to the giants of Naturena
Kaizer Chiefs caretaker coach Arthur Zwane has said he wants to win the Caf Champions League title for the country.
Zwane and fellow interim Chiefs coach Dillon Sheppard recently guided the Soweto giants to two back-to-back victories that put the team in the PSL’s top-eight.
Nicknamed 10111 when he was playing, Zwane aims to win the Champions League title with Amakhosi who will face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the semi-final round-trip later this month.
“We know we’ve had a very difficult season, a disappointing season by our standards as a team,” Zwane said on IDiski timetables.
“But there is also something very good in terms of the Caf Champions League. Through thick and thin the fans have been there for us and we appreciate that as a team.
“I hope next season things change for the better and I hope we can put a smile on our fans by maybe taking the team to the Champions League final and winning it for the country because everything is now possible. “
The Chiefs have had one of their worst seasons in PSL under coach Gavin Hunt, who was sacked by the club late last month and Zwane and Sheppard have taken over the interim squad.
“I feel sorry for the people who have been there for us for many years. I fought as a player, they were there when the Chiefs were down and never gave up on us, “Zwane continued.
“And they are always there as supporters. We always do our best to make them smile.”
Zwane, who won two PSL titles with Amakhosi during his playing years, believes the Glamor Boys will win the silverware next season.
“We want to win cups, we want to win the championship, we want to dominate. Things are slowly improving, very soon things will return to normal for us,” he concluded.
The Chiefs have been heavily linked with their former coach Stuart Baxter, who is currently unattached since separating from Indian club Odisha FC in February 2021.
Amakhosi will be at Wydad in the first leg on June 19, before hosting the North African giants in the second leg on June 26.
The overall winner will then face Egyptian champions Al Ahly or Tunisian giants Esperance Tunis in the final.
