Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift and 23 Other Primetime Emmy Winners Who Topped the Hot 100 – Billboard

No fewer than 11 artists who topped the Billboard Hot 100 are nominated for Primetime Emmys this year. The list includes Adele, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Donald Glover (Childish Gambino), plus one of the executive producers (Jay-Z) and the six stars and the revolutionary The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 cents.

Jay and all of those hip-hop heavyweights are battling it out for an outstanding (live) variety special. Adele and Gaga are both nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) – Adele for Adele: One night only; gaga for One Last Time: An Evening with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. Gomez is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series as Producer of Only murders in the building; Lizzo for an Outstanding Competition Program as Executive Producer of Lizzo watch out for big grrrls; and Glover for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Atlanta.

Glover won in this same category five years ago. If any of these 10 other artists win at the Emmys presentation next month, they will join an impressive list of artists to achieve these two career milestones. The Emmy has been television’s most prestigious award since it was first presented in January 1949; the Hot 100 has been the definitive song chart since its introduction in August 1958.

Here are 25 artists who have achieved both of these feats in their careers. This list doesn’t claim to be definitive, but it’s a good head start.

Note 1: We’re talking about the Primetime Emmys here, not the Daytime Emmys (Kelly Clarkson won five), the News & Documentary Emmys, or any of the many other Emmy spin-off shows.

Note 2: The Monkees won the 1967 award for Outstanding Comedy Series, but the award went to the producers, not the Hot 100 group. Frank Sinatra: A Man and His Music (1966) and Celebrating the 60th birthday of Sammy Davis, Jr.(1990) both won key Emmys, but the programs’ legendary stars (Hot 100 toppers both) did not personally receive Emmys.
