Justin Gaethje likes the unknowns of fighting

Holloway is the record holder himself. “Blessed” holds the records for most successful strikes in a round, a fight and a career, and over the course of 28 UFC fights, the Hawaiian has never been put on the canvas following a strike. These are all accolades that make this match a worthy BMF title fight, and Gaethje also sees it as an indicator of where he stands in terms of his own legacy in the sport.

“I mean, (Holloway) is a little younger than me, but he started way before me,” Gaethje said. “When my goal was to make the UFC, I looked at guys like Max Holloway. (It’s) just a testimony of my journey. It’s really awesome, the fact that I’ve made it this far and can fight a guy like Max Holloway.

While it’s easy to reduce the confrontation and say it’s a banger/war/select your adjective-violent guaranteed, it’s also a fight where something has to give. Both men are credited with excellent cardio, an excellent chin, and excellent offensive output.

Outside of Alexander Volkanovski and Dustin Poirier, no one has gotten the most out of Holloway. Gaethje has the tools to give the challenger trouble, namely his signature kicks and one-punch power.
