MUMBAI – As part of its Justice world tour, Justin Bieber will perform in India on October 18, it was announced today. The show, which is co-promoted by AEG Presents and Indian entertainment ticketing platform BookMyShow, will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
The stoppage will mark Bieber’s second concert in India, following his performance in Mumbai in May 2017, which was part of his Goal world tour and attracted more than 40,000 fans.
This concert marked one of the biggest concerts by an international artist in India. This will be the first show in a stadium by a foreign group after the start of the pandemic, and the first since the closure of U2 Joshua tree tour in Mumbai in December 2019. The Irish rockers performed in front of over 40,000 fans during the show, promoted by BookMyShow and Live Nation.
BookMyShow will issue approximately 43,000 tickets for Bieber’s visit to India. Based on its streaming numbers in the country, the concert is likely to sell out. Bieber was the most heard non-Indian artist on Apple Music India and local services Gaana and JioSaavn last year. On Spotify, he was second only to K-Pop behemoths BTS.
Despite the high consumption of international music in India, the lack of big venues in the country has deterred many of the world’s biggest stars from touring here. In an opening interview at the Indian music conference All About Music in September 2021, Bieber’s manager brown scooter said, “I never understood why you are able to create the studios and Bollywood and all the rest, but there are not enough big rooms. It’s very hard to properly shoot a global superstar that you can see by the streams, deserves to be there a lot more. The infrastructure is not set up correctly every time we come.
BookMyShow has opened registration for the presale of the Bieber concert in New Delhi, with tickets starting at 4,000 rupees (around $50).
