Pop superstar Justin Bieber has unveiled the new single “Lonely”, produced by Benny Blanco (Rihanna, J Balvin, Sia) and FINNEAS. Watch his corresponding music video below.
In the clip, a young boy played by actor Jacob Tremblay (Bedroom) sits alone in front of a stylish backstage mirror with a bouquet of roses. The kid is assumed to be a 13-year-old Bieber, newly signed to Scooter Braun’s record label and having had his first glimpses of the superstar. He ends up making his way through the backstage of the hall and onto the stage – only to find his future self as the only member of the audience.
“Benny and Finneas are both amazing writers, and it’s been amazing working with them on ‘Lonely’,” Bieber said in a statement. “To be honest, the final song is hard for me to listen to, considering how difficult it was to get through some of these chapters. I hope that telling this story will encourage others to express what they are going through. “
Ahead of release day, Biebs watched the video on Snapchat Sounds, the app’s latest feature. Thanks to Snapchat Sounds, Gen Zers now have the ability to add music to their visuals. Billboard reports that the available music will be curated, with mega-famous and emerging musicians. It is an obvious game for capturing TikTok users, which allows users to sample music and sound effects while dancing in a parking lot.
“Lonely” follows the collaborative singles “Holy” featuring Chance the Rapper and “Stuck With U”, assisted by Ariana Grande. In February, Biebs released a new album titled Changes.
This next weekend, Bieber will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, appearing alongside host Issa Rae.
