Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool owe their point against Darwin Nunez after the new signing changed the game at Craven Cottage.
The Reds traveled to west London in what many thought would be a stroll, but an Aleksandar Mitrovic brace earned Fulham a 2-2 draw with the Reds.
The Serbian striker put Marco Silva’s side ahead with a first-half header before Nunez leveled the game just after the hour mark.
That scoreline lasted just eight minutes before Mitrovic put Fulham ahead from the penalty spot and then Mohamed Salah salvaged the game again for the Reds.
While Klopp was delighted to see his side escape Craven Cottage with a point, the Liverpool boss believes their new £85m signing got them out of jail.
He told talkSPORT: “A striker is massively dependent on deliveries and we haven’t played well.
“Yeah, we had those times and Mo [Salah] found a way when the service was good and yes Darwin helped a lot.
“Without Darwin, we would probably have no reason.”
Klopp added: “It was a very bad game from us. I didn’t like our start, our start was bad and we fought in the game but it never looked easy for us.
“It was too much in the hands of Fulham. We lost the ball where they wanted us to lose the ball and there were too many situations where they could have a good feeling and we could have a bad feeling. We had the biggest chances, but we missed them.
“We had the momentum for five minutes, Darwin equalized which was good but then we conceded the penalty which again made it difficult.
“The best thing about the game was the result. One point here for this performance is good.
Meanwhile, Fulham boss Marco Silva is adamant his side deserved more than a draw.
He told talkSPORT: “For us it’s easy to understand why our players were the way they were after the game.
“In the dressing room they were happy with the performance, but disappointed with the result because we were almost there for the three points but only got one.
“We are happy with it because we deserved more than that, but we showed a great attitude, a great commitment because there were good football moments too and we are happy with that.”
