Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he almost phoned talkSPORT to challenge Gabby Agbonlahor in Manchester United’s 4-0 hammering away at Brentford.

Agbonlahor, host of talkSPORT’s GameDay conference call with Jamie O’Hara during the Red Devils hammering on Saturday, was highly critical of Erik ten Hag’s side.

Klopp previously revealed he used talkSPORT to help him with his English when he arrived at Liverpool

The Aston Villa legend said: “If I were in their shoes now after this game I’d be thinking, ‘You know what, Ten Hag, pack your bags’.

“He had pre-season and they started the season in shambles, they are like strangers on the pitch.”

And it turns out Klopp was listening.

The Reds boss takes his side at Old Trafford on Monday night and he brushed off Agbonlahor’s comments at a press conference on Friday.

Asked about United being beaten by the Bees, Klopp said: “It was not a great week for United after Brentford. We forget how good Brentford are.

He added: “I came home after watching the first half here. [the Liverpool training ground]. I listened to talkSPORT and heard Gabby Agbonlahor. What he said about United was incredible.

“He lost 6-0 here with Villa in my first season. He was not a mentality freak in this game. I was about to call.

Klopp was referring to a Premier League clash in February 2016, months before Villa were relegated to the Championship.

It was the German’s first season in charge of Liverpool and Villa conceded four goals in 13 second-half minutes in front of their own fans.

Agbonlahor started this game with Daniel Sturridge, James Milner, Emre Can, Divock Origi, Nathaniel Clyne and Kolo Toure scoring.

Nonetheless, Gabby will surely have something to say about Klopp’s Liverpool defeat 7-2 at Villa in 2020.
