Judy Sheindlin, one of America’s biggest daytime TV stars, has revealed that her longtime CBS show, Judge Judy, will end next year after 25 seasons.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, which will air on Monday, the 77-year-old woman said she would launch a new show on another unnamed network in 2022.
“I had a 25-year marriage to CBS and it was a success,” said Sheindlin. in a clip published online.
CBS has yet to comment on the departure of the multiple Emmy winner.
According to Sheindlin, CBS is looking to use rehearsals from Judge Judy, instead of ordering other series.
She explained, “Now, [CBS] have 25 years of reruns, so what they decided to do was sell a few years of reruns. “
“But,” she added, “I’m not tired.”
Sheindlin said her desire to continue working led her to decide to start a new show, called Judy Justice. But it will not be broadcast on CBS.
She said the new show “would go elsewhere” while reruns of her old shows go into syndication.
Sheindlin said next year will mark “the silver anniversary” of her show Judge Judy and that her last season will be “the best ever.”
“Judge Judy, you can see next year – a whole year, all the new shows,” she confirmed.
“For the next two years, you should be able to catch all of the reruns CBS has sold to stations that currently carry Judy Judy, and Judy Justice will go somewhere else – isn’t that fun?”
According to Variety, Sheindlin sold the library of her show to CBS in 2017 for around $ 100 million (£ 78.25 million).
Since 1996, millions of viewers have seen Sheindlin judge concrete cases of small claims.
Over 5,000 episodes of the show have aired since its inception and Sheindlin is now the highest paid personality on American television.
ITV’s popular daytime show, Justice Rinder, follows a similar format, criminal lawyer Robert Rinder in court.
