Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has LEFT his role, along with the entire club board, according to stunning reports in Spain.
The head of the Nou camp called a press conference on Tuesday evening, where he is expected to confirm the news.
Bartomeu has been in charge of the Spanish giants since 2014 but has faced increasing pressure to leave following public criticism from Barca icon Lionel Messi and many other players.
Reports in Spain claim the 57-year-old decided to step down from his post before a vote of no confidence could be cast to expel him.
Spanish newspaper Sport reports that a number of directors on the board have also followed Bartomeu out of the club following an urgent meeting just three days after Barcelona lost 3-1 at home to Real Madrid.
Bartomeu was particularly damaged by his handling of the Messi saga this summer, which almost prompted the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to leave his childhood club after 20 years.
While Bartomeu has been calling the spotlight at Barcelona for years, the club are owned by the supporters and it is claimed that the fans have come together and secured the required number of signatures to launch a vote of no confidence.
But the chef decided to leave on his own, rather than being forced to leave.
