Jose Johnson has not lost a step | UFC Battle Pass

The story we’re used to reading ends with Johnson leaving the sport after two missed chances in front of Dana White, but one of FIGHT PASS’ most exciting forwards has made it clear over the past 12 months that he didn’t lose a step.

“I think I’ve done enough to be pushed again,” Johnson said. “With a ten second knockout and then finishing off a guy who was previously undefeated, I think I’ve done enough.”

In what is either his “next chance” or his “last chance” to impress the UFC president, Johnson will face Cage Warriors bantamweight champion Jack Cartwright. The 10-0 champion in one of MMA’s strongest promotions might be the only man with such a friendly style as Johnson. Nine of Cartwright’s 10 wins have come by stoppage, almost all of them in the first round.

On paper, Johnson has his work cut out for him, but he already feels like he has a leg up on his undefeated opponent.

“I know he’s undefeated, I know he likes to throw a lot of hooks,” Johnson said. “I know if I hit him with something he’s going to try to struggle. I’m not worried about his wrestling. I gained a lot more weight and focused on my ground game. That’s the only exit I see for him in the fight. I don’t think he’s going to stand in front of a guy my size and try to go blow for blow with me.

Beating a fighter 10-0 might seem like a tall mountain to climb, but getting knocked down and back up again and again with no support system around you is the real test.

For Jose Johnson, Jack Cartwright is just another opponent.
