England’s Jordan Smith broke down in tears after finishing 30 under par to win the Portugal Masters and earn his first win since 2017.

The 29-year-old triumphed by three strokes, having led Dom Pedro Victoria in the first round.

“It’s nice to finally get that second win,” said the Wiltshire golfer.

Malaysia’s Gavin Green was second, with Finn Tapio Pulkkanen five strokes further in third and England’s Eddie Pepperell fourth at 21 under.

Multiple top-10 finishes figured into a great 2022 for Smith, but this was her first triumph since the European Open five years ago.

He carded a 63 to follow rounds of 62, 67 and 62 on the par 71 course and moved up to ninth in the DP World Tour standings.

Germany’s Sebastian Heisele, 34, finished fifth on 19 under alongside compatriot Hurly Long, who was racing his last lap before retirement.
