Samsung’s Galaxy Movie Studio, a platform designed for people to learn the ins and outs of cinema from experts, held one of its sessions on Friday.
Launched on November 28, 2019, the platform aims to help smartphone users maximize the use of their devices and produce more cinema professionals in Indonesia.
Through an offline class in Central Park Mall, west of Jakarta, award-winning director Joko Anwar shared his knowledge and advice on visual storytelling.
“I am honored to be part of Galaxy Movie Studio. Thanks to this course, I have the chance to meet film enthusiasts, have direct discussions and share my advice on how to make a good film, ”said Joko in a press release. “With the Galaxy S20, users can use the Single Shot, Ultrawide, 8K Video and Super Steady 2.0 features.”

The director, best known for popular films such as Pengabdi Setan and Gundala, Underlined the importance of the treatment of a director at the beginning of the production process. “It is a guide for directors to describe a film, composed of camera movements, type of shooting, camera angle and narration,” he said.
He added that the visual support of the narration could cover the shooting techniques, the composition of the shots and the choice of colors. “Everything can be done using a smartphone, as long as we are smart enough to use its features,” said Joko.
Other advice from Joko for emerging filmmakers included a deep understanding of the film’s script, creativity and daring to explore camera angles, movements and decide the tone of the film.
Galaxy Movie Studio courses are available on the Samsung Indonesia YouTube channel, with filmmakers Yandy Laurens and Sammaria Simanjuntak covering pre-production, production and post-production. (wng)
