There’s more to JoJo Siwa than rainbows and glitter, and in a recent TikTok she opened up about who she is and how she first realized she was part of the LGBTQ+ community. Ever a storyteller, Siwa posted a video on Oct. 5 following the viral “One thing about me…” TikTok trend, in which users begin with Nicki Minaj’s iconic lyrics “Super Freaky Girl” and tell an anecdote from their own lives to the rhythm of the song. Siwa’s, which she labeled “My Gay Awakening Story Hour,” begins with none other than Demi Lovato.
“One thing about me is when I was 12, Demi Lovato released the song ‘Cool For the Summer’. I really liked it and listened to it all the time — I didn’t know not what it meant then, but now that I’m much older and understand, I know what it means,” she snaps quickly, referring to the song’s subtle hints about the song. experimentation with sexuality (although Lovato has never officially confirmed the exact meaning). “Then a few years later, Jenna Dewan was on ‘Lip Sync Battle’. She did a really good ‘Magic Mike’ number, [and] I watched it pretty much every day,” Siwa continues hilariously.
At the time, Siwa didn’t think much about these bindings, but she says there are has been a moment of realization in which everything finally connected. “Little me didn’t know she was gay. Until. A few years later, a man was my first date. And he wanted to have sex with me, and I didn’t want to, I didn’t ever wanted, disgusted by the thought of it,” she says. After this experience, Siwa says she gained great clarity about who she was and what she really wanted.”[I] I knew straight away that men aren’t my thing, women are my thing – I have to go!” she concluded, quickly stepping away from the camera. ).
