Waiting for change on TikTok? Some hours later John mayer joined the video sharing platform, Taylor Swift fans inundated him with comments about the former couple’s 12-year age difference.
“You are not safe here, john,” a TikTok user wrote under Mayer’s first upload on Monday, March 1. Another fan referred to the lyrics to Swift’s 2010 song “Dear John”, writing, “John don’t you think 19 was too Young?”
Later Monday, the “Gravity” singer, 43, uploaded a video of himself mumbling and nodding while slowly zooming in on his face and pretending to be lectured.
“POV: You’re berating me and I’m listening to you,” he captioned the clip, leading other TikTok users to speculate that was his response to Swifties comments.
The second post only sparked more hate, however, with one troll calling Mayer “mr old man victim complex” and another claiming that “Taylor’s song about you is better than your entire discography.”
The Dead & Company member apparently noticed the comments once again when posting a third video Monday night of himself singing, “It was a weird day / That was a really weird day.” He captioned the message: “Good night new friends!”
Mayer and Swift, 31, are dated December 2009 through February 2010. After posting “Dear John,” he said Rolling stone that he “didn’t deserve” to be called out in a song.
“It was really a bad thing to do,” he said in the June 2012 interview. “I never received an email. I never received a phone call. I was really caught off guard. … I will say as a songwriter that I think it’s kind of cheap writing. It’s abusing your talent to rub your hands and say, “Wait till he gets a load of it!” These are bulls – t.
The “Shake It Off” singer later said Charm that Mayer was “cocky” in assuming he inspired “Dear John,” telling the magazine in October 2012, “I never reveal who my songs are about.”
The guitarist – who also dated Jessica simpson, Jennifer aniston and Katy Perry – said about his friend Andy cohenSiriusXM showed last month that none of its exes were on their “boogeyman list” anymore. He also admitted that he hoped to be a muse for his old flames which are also in the music industry.
Sometimes a song is so good [that] I say, ‘Dude, I hope that’s about me,’ “he confessed on Feb. 22.” At a certain age, these relationships, they kind of fall into that category of inheritance. where they no longer make your nerves ring or disturb you. . … I’ll watch everyone’s music. I’m a fan. “
