The singer spoke frankly about how she felt she had to go to the gym every day and that she would miss going to the studio or skipping writing sessions for training.
Ellie revealed that it was her former husband, Olympic rower Caspar Jopling, who helped her overcome her addiction by taking a step back from touring.
She told The Sun, “ I don’t consider myself to have an addictive personality, but I felt like at one point I had a gym addiction that just wasn’t fun, I felt like I had to go to the gym every day.
“ I don’t know if it was a survival thing, because the tours were so tiring, so difficult, really taxing your body and your sanity.

“ I felt like it was a survival instinct to train all the time, to make sure I was super fit, super healthy and trying to counter the drinks by tour and maybe not to eat well. ”
Last year, Ellie revealed that she had almost left music after 10 years of touring, which left her with paralyzing anxiety.
Ellie took a four-year break from her 2015 album, but Caspar, 28, helped her “ rediscover ” her passion and create a healthy relationship with exercise.
Ellie said she sees touring as a real life, but feels truly “inspired by Caspar’s” incredible will and determination “.
But the singer, who married Caspar in a romantic ceremony last August, said she was fed up with people asking when they will have children.
