Jodie Comer insisted co-star Sandra Oh slapped her while filming Killing Eve: ‘It was important to do it for real’

Jodie Comer has insisted co-star Sandra Oh slapped her for real while filming Killing Eve.

Villanelle’s (Jodie) and Eve’s (Sandra) cat-and-mouse game was the show’s focal point with viewers blown away by the couple’s on-screen chemistry.

And it seems the pair were so in tune with their characters that they opted to film a fight scene for real instead of using camera trickery.

Stuntman Jonathan Cohen worked with the pair on the BBC drama and recalled, “There was a scene in series four of Killing Eve where Eve slaps Villanelle.”

He added to the Radio Times: “Sandra really didn’t want the slap to connect, so we were going to film her from a certain angle without physical contact.” Jodie said, “For this particular scene, it’s dramatic, it’s important. I would like Sandra to slap me.

“The manager said he would take my advice, so Sandra and I went into a corner and she practiced slapping me. She’s the most charming woman – it took a little encouragement to make her feel like it was OK to do this. But she actually slaps Jodie in this scene.

“As a stunt coordinator, you always try to protect everyone. You don’t want anyone to get as much as a scratch, but that was one where artistic license was allowed.

The fourth and final season of Killing Eve aired earlier this year but has been described as a ‘wet firecracker’ with critics saying the BBC show has ‘overstayed its welcome’.

Nonetheless, a Killing Eve spin-off show is reportedly in the works, which will focus on popular character Carolyn Martens.

The creators of the hit BBC drama are believed to be considering a prequel to Carolyn’s (Fiona Shaw) debut.

Due to the timeline of the reported spin-off series, main characters Villanelle and Eve Polastri are unlikely to make an appearance.

A TV insider told The Sun that spy Carolyn is both a curveball choice and an obvious choice for the direction of the spinoff, as she will provide a different angle to continue the series.

They added, “Bosses felt that Killing Eve should end, but its spirit should endure in a new form, and that is the project they are focusing their efforts on now.

“It’s in the early stages of development and the final series is months, if not years away.”
