‘I was embarrassed about it’: Jimmy Barnes reveals he had cosmetic surgery to correct a feature he said made him ‘ridiculous’

Jimmy Barnes revealed he had cosmetic surgery to change a feature he was still aware of.

The 64-year-old said he had his ears pinned back – a procedure called otoplasty – on his 40th birthday in 1994.

The rocker told the Courier Mail on Saturday: ‘I’m happier with them. Before, wearing a pair of sunglasses looked funny, putting on a hat made me look silly.

“I was embarrassed. I was teased a lot when I was a kid, ” he admitted.

The Working Class Man singer described the procedure as a “ gift to himself ” for his 40th birthday and had the work done in France.

Jimmy says he never kept the process a secret, admitting, “ No one asked me. A reporter once asked if I had a facelift and I could answer, “ No! ”

He went on to say that his wife, Jane, and children preferred his old ears, but was happier with the way he looked now.

“ It made me feel more comfortable and I could cut my hair and didn’t worry or care about the photos. It made me a little easier; I’m a lot more aerodynamic, ”he says.

Jimmy is currently back on the road for the first time since the COVID-19 restrictions went into effect.

The rocker performed at the Top End Breakout Tour in Darwin on September 26, where he was joined by a number of other artists for an eight-hour live mini festival.

Jimmy had been quarantined in the Southern Highlands in order to cross the Northern Territory before the concert.

Jimmy told the Daily Telegraph: ‘We are starting in Darwin but we want to play everywhere.
