2GB Drive Time host Jim Wilson resigned from his post on Wednesday just a day after his stepfather Donald lost his 14-year health battle following complications from a devastating stroke.

The sports journalist, 54, sadly told listeners he was leaving his job after two years and Thursday’s show would be his last.

“I love what I do and I always have a passion to do more in the future. I say bring on the next chapter,” he said.

The father-of-two moved into radio in 2020 after working in television for decades and quickly developed a loyal following.

Jim posted moving words confirming his departure on Twitter: “I will miss my listeners”. We have won some great victories, you have supported us so much.

It didn’t take long for many of his 26,000 followers to wish him well.

One fan was quick to compliment the veteran journalist, writing, “You are a credit to the radio industry”, while another wished him “all the best for the adventures ahead”.

Jim’s announcement comes just hours after his wife, newsreader Chris Bath, tragically lost his father Donald after he died peacefully with his family by his side.

The sad news was confirmed by Jim Wilson on his 2GB afternoon radio show shortly before his surprise resignation.

The former Channel Seven sports reporter told listeners during his usual Drive slot with Jim Wilson on Wednesday that it had been a “sad 24 hours” for his family.

Wilson confirmed his stepfather battled the effects of a major stroke for 14 years, which left him paralyzed on one side, before he died on Tuesday.

Wilson said he was off the air Tuesday because he rushed to his “handsome and seriously ill” stepfather’s bedside to say his final goodbyes.
