Jennifer Lopez closed 2020 with a rocking New Years performance and started 2021 on an even more fabulous note. Today the singer released her new music video for “In The Morning” on Triller, and it’s an ethereal fashion fantasy full of designer labels. (The video hits all platforms on Friday.)
The surreal video was crafted by longtime Lopez stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, and features the trio’s signature glamorous aesthetic. Lopez plays an angel sent from above who happens to have exquisite taste in tailoring. It opens with Lopez floating in heavenly space, wearing a pastel Iris van Herpen gown moving – no, dances-in the wind. In another scene, she is resting on a bed while sporting a crystal dress from Augusto Manzanares, a Peruvian designer, paired with dramatic wings from Mother Plucker. She also wears the wings solo, with nothing underneath. (As my colleague Janelle Okwodu pointed out, the naked and winged moment is a nod to a photoshoot J.Lo did with photographer Tony Turan in 1999.)
“It’s full of symbolism about a dark one-sided relationship and the realization that you can’t change anyone else … you can only change yourself,” Lopez wrote of the stylish video concept on Instagram. “Develop your own wings and stay away from anyone or anything that doesn’t really value all you have to offer.” By decorating her person with all the best fashions designers have to offer, J.Lo shows how expensive she is. Other standout moments in the video include a tight white dress by designer Marco Marco; a glamorous foil look, consisting of a metallic Graham Cruz top with a matching Lever Couture skirt; She even plays the high fashion mermaid, “swimming” through the air with a silver Manuel Albarran top and an Iggy Soliven tail.
The best fashion moment of all, however, comes at the end of the video. Lopez emerges in a tiered feathered Valentino coat that measures several feet tall, complete with a Marianna Harutunian crystal mask. (Harutunian is a jewelry designer who also made bespoke pieces for Lady Gaga.) Because the only thing better than J.Lo is a gigantic, J.Lo. wearing valentino
