Jennifer Lopez Takes on a Gritty New Role in Her Next Netflix Movie The motherand we finally have our first look at the drama, which is slated for release in May 2023.
This weekend was Netflix’s Tudum fan event, an annual affair that offers sneak peeks at some of the streaming service’s most anticipated new releases. And although we first saw everything, from the Bridgerton prequel series to the fifth season of The crownwe now have a look at J.Lo in her new action thriller.
The teaser begins with Lopez’s character working in a remote cabin, surrounded by a snowy forest. Then we learn why this character seems to be preparing for something.
“She needs protection right now,” Lopez says in the video, referring to her daughter. “You saw what was there. It will keep coming. If there are any problems, come find me.

Because few details have been revealed about the movie so far, most of these quotes remain cryptic in the context of the trailer. However, we do know that Lopez portrays a deadly assassin who is forced out of hiding in order to protect his estranged daughter from dangerous forces.
Along with J.Lo, The mother will also star Joseph Fiennes, Gael García Bernal, Omari Hardwick, Lucy Paez, Paul Raci, Michael Karl Richards, Jesse Garcia, Yvonne Senat Jones, Olivia Lucas, Noah Crawford and Link Baker.

The mother was directed by Niki Caro, known for directing major films such as the 2020 live-action remake of Mulaneas well as the 2017 war drama The zookeeper’s wife.
In honor of the teaser, Lopez shared a throwback video to her personal Instagram, which was taken from her 2006 film. El Cantante, where she played the wife of the late salsa singer Héctor Lavoe. “In honor of my new movie #TheMother,” Lopez wrote in her caption.
