Jennifer Lawrence Used to Claim Ellen DeGeneres Interviewed Her on the Toilet – Hollywood Reporter

Before being an Oscar-winning actress, Jennifer Lawrence pretended to be interviewed by Ellen DeGeneres while she was in the bathroom.

So for Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the host called Lawrence, who also happens to be her neighbor, while she was — where else? – on the toilet. The segment, which aired Sunday in the media, was an audio interview and not a video (for obvious reasons), so we’ll have to take our word for it that Lawrence was indeed in the bathroom. (Coincidentally, the two are now neighbors, with Lawrence living in a house that once belonged to DeGeneres, who moved into the house next door.)

During the interview, they talked about how Lawrence’s dream was to one day be successful enough to be interviewed by the likes of DeGeneres. When asked if she had ever claimed she was interviewed by other talk show hosts, Lawrence replied, “Oprah [Winfrey], obviously. A little of [David] Letterman. But I was really on your show. So pretty much every time it was a No. 2, it was you,” she joked to DeGeneres.

The host noted how remarkable it was that her fake interviews became a reality.

“Being in Kentucky, sitting on the toilet pretending someone’s interviewing you, then ending up being a big superstar, and now being interviewed talking about sitting on the toilet pretending to be interviewed “, said DeGeneres.

DeGeneres noted that there are probably other people who have done the same thing but haven’t risen to fame: “So that’s a big deal, right?” she asked Laurent.

The actress and new mom joked, “Yeah, I mean, I really showed up strong there. Maybe that’s the lesson: take your time. Don’t rush.

Lawrence, who is now 31, said her fake interviews took place when she was between 13 and 17 years old. She said the questions she would pretend to answer included, “How did you get so pretty? You are probably the prettiest person I have ever seen. And I was like, ‘Oh, come on, I’m definitely not the most beautiful person you’ve ever seen.’ »

DeGeneres joked: “This is hilarious. That’s what talk show hosts do. ‘How did you get so pretty?’

DeGeneres ended the interview by asking Lawrence if there was a role she was disappointed she didn’t get.

“Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland,” she said. “Because I walked in and spoke with a British accent, thinking there was no way they would find out I wasn’t actually British. So when I didn’t get it, it felt like a failure on all sorts of fronts.
