Jaycee Horn does not lack confidence. After his professional day in South Carolina, the cornerback called himself the top defenseman in the draft.
On Thursday, the Cowboys posted a short video of their interview with Horn, acknowledging their need for a starting cornerback. Horn and Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain are options for 10th-place Dallas.
So we asked Horn who was the best corner in the draft and why.
“I feel like I am the best corner in the project hands down, ”Horn told the Cowboys during a video call. “When I look around every corner I feel like the top, the top of the top, it’s me and Pat Surtain from Alabama. I have the impression that he is a great player. I learned a lot from watching his film. But I think what separates us at the end of the day is just the way we compete, the way I compete and the way he plays. I feel like it’s like a difference day and night when you turn on the tape. “
It’s unlikely that Horn knew his comment would become public, but it’s also a safe bet that he believes what he said, and he should believe what he said. If Horn had said anything else, it would have given the Cowboys a break.
For the record, Florida tight end Kyle Pitts agrees with Horn. Pitts told the Cowboys in a video they posted on Wednesday that Horn was the best defensive back he has faced. Pitts played against Surtain in the SEC Championship game last season.
Horn also said on the video that he could have defended his father, former NFL wide receiver Joe Horn, in a one-on-one battle back in the day.
“I think, I think I’m going to have it,” Horn said. “I’m a little taller than him. My technique will win it.
