Jay Leno’s Wife Mavis Says She ‘Feels Great’ at Unfrosted LA Premiere After Granted Dementia Diagnosis and Conservatorship

Jay Leno and his wife of nearly 44 years, Mavis Nicholson Leno, enjoyed a romantic evening at the Hollywood premiere of the Netflix film Unfrosted on Tuesday – three weeks after a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge granted her guardianship amid her dementia diagnosis.

“I feel good, yeah!” “” the 77-year-old philanthropist told ET on the red carpet at the Egyptian Theater.

The former Tonight Show host added, “I thought I’d come to something fun for a change.” It’s all so controversial. Just to come see a funny, silly movie, it’s great. I think people will have a good time. Well, we go out every day. We have a good time. 44 years ! So we’re fine.

Jay may have turned 74 on Sunday, but he said they didn’t do anything special because he was “not a big birthday guy.”

‘Neither him nor me [are]!’ Mavis added, tilting her head towards Leno. “We are just for each other.”

The two-time Emmy winner agreed: “My life is a party anyway, so every day is a good day.”

Jay and the Feminist Majority Foundation board member — who never had children — first met in 1976 while he was performing at the Comedy Store in West Hollywood.

Leno filed for guardianship over Mavis on Jan. 26 to manage her “advanced dementia” care and create a living trust to ensure she will have future care in the event of his death.

According to People, Dr. Hart Cohen reported that the San Francisco-born philanthropist “sometimes does not know her husband or his birth date” and “is very disoriented and ruminates about her parents who are both deceased.”

Mavis’ neurologist added that the New York-born comedian is “such a nice man and treats her like gold” and that she considers him “her protector and she trusts him.”

His health scare comes just over a year ago since Jay suffered a broken collarbone, two fractured ribs and two cracked kneecaps after crashing his vintage motorcycle in Las Vegas.

This, six months after Leno suffered second- and third-degree burns “from a gasoline fire” while working on a 1907 white steam car at his Big Dog garage in Burbank.

The Bug Therapy actor received skin grafts “from a cadaver and pig intestines” to recreate his left ear and the left side of his face at the Grossman Burn Center in Burbank, according to People.

It’s been two years since Jay played his role as legendary talk show host Ed Sullivan in Midas Man, Sara Sugarman’s long-delayed biopic about Beatles manager Brian Epstein, and it’s still unclear when it will see the light of day .
