The Philadelphia Eagles’ run to Super Bowl LII won’t soon be forgotten, but Jason Kelce lost a rather precious memory following that victory. On his “New Heights” podcast, Kelce revealed that he lost his Super Bowl ring in a rather unusual way.

Kelce and his brother Travis organized the Great Lombaby Games at the University of Cincinnati. The competition between athletes and scholars involved a game in which competitors dove into pools of Skyline chili.

Unfortunately for Kelce, the contestants weren’t the only ones dipping themselves in chili. Kelce said he lost his ring in one of the pools and it was now gone forever.

“I legit lost my Super Bowl ring at that event,” Kelce said. “They couldn’t find it. … We haven’t found it yet. All that stuff has now been thrown away, so I think we can safely assume that my Super Bowl ring is now in a dump somewhere in the Cincinnati tri-state area, I didn’t think it would happen.

Kelce noted that he had already started the process of getting a new ring to replace the chili-covered one. Whether the insurance company actually covers the loss is another story.

“We’ve already filed the insurance claim, and the insurance company might have something to say about whether it’s covered or not,” Kelce said.

Kelce, who earned first-team All-Pro honors six times during his career, has had no shortage of accolades throughout his career. However, this Super Bowl LII victory was the only one he had.
