Now here on talkSPORT.com, we’re not big fans of making exaggerated big claims just to provoke a reaction from tety football fans …
But we cannot be held responsible for our presenters, because Jason Cundy said that “all the clubs in London would like to be Chelsea”.
The Sports Bar host discussed Liverpool’s defeat to Watford over the weekend and the celebrations that followed Arsenal fans.
Gunners fans across the country – as well as Gary Neville – were jubilant on Saturday as Liverpool suffered a 3-0 defeat at Vicarage Road, which ended their hopes of remaining unbeaten all season and ensured that the famous Arsenal Invincibles record remains unmatched.
Cundy is no stranger to celebrating a rival club’s doom – did you see his hilarious reaction to Arsenal’s exit from the Europa League last week?
But he and his co-host Adam Catterall questioned the timing of Arsenal’s celebrations just days after their European nightmare against Olympiakos.
Catterall criticized the Gooners for their “embarrassing” reaction to Liverpool’s defeat and said, “The highlight of this year’s Arsenal season has been Watford beating Liverpool – how sad is it?”
But Cundy followed this statement with even more daring audacity.
Adam’s reaction alone makes this clip interesting to watch!
Comparing London’s rivals, the former Blues defender said, “Every London club would like to be Chelsea.
“In fact, most clubs in the country would like to be Chelsea.
“They would like!”
* Adam Catterall giggling like a little girl *
“Wait,” continued Cundy.
“The last London club to win the Premier League? Chelsea!
“The last London club to win the FA Cup? Chelsea!
“The last London club to win the League Cup? Chelsea!
“The last London club to have won the Europa League? Chelsea!
“The last London club and the only London club to have won the Champions League? CHELSEA!
“I REST MY CASE, MY LORD!”
And it seems to have annoyed a lot of Arsenal and Tottenham fans, with over 300 angry responses to the Twitter post.
Jason is in form with regard to this quite remarkable statement, which even elicited a response from Frank Lampard.
Earlier this season, talkSPORT host said after the Blues’ Ajax victory in the Champions League group stage that Tottenham, no, EVERY Premier League club would like to be Chelsea.
Why? Because of their exciting young team and the return of the legend of the Lampard club as manager.
“Outside of Liverpool and Man City, I think Chelsea is the club everyone wants to be,” he told the Sports Bar.
“Liverpool and Man City are the benchmark, they are miles away, but everyone would like to be in the place of Chelsea.
“The Spurs would like to be Chelsea at 1,000%. Arsenal would do it at 2000%. Manchester United, 10,000%! [To Man United fan and co-host Andy Goldstein] in the blink of an eye, you would exchange!
“And I’ll tell you why, Chelsea have a legend back and there is real direction on the management of the club.
“For the future, there is no club that does not want to be Chelsea at the moment.”
