Project Lincoln was defiant, saying in a scathing public statement that the billboards would stay in place.
Project Lincoln is largely made up of conservatives seeking to defeat President Donald Trump next month, including George Conway, lawyer and husband of former Trump campaign manager and senior adviser Kellyanne Conway.
The public row is playing out as coronavirus cases have started to rise again across the country. President Trump, meanwhile, continued to organize campaign rallies despite the continuing health threat 10 days before the election.
The billboards feature an edited photo of Ivanka Trump smiling and gesturing at the coronavirus death toll in New York and the United States – the original photo featured her holding a can of Goya beans – and an anonymously attributed quote to Kushner in a September Vanity Fair article.
The article describes a meeting in March between White House officials, including Kushner, a senior adviser to the president, and private sector leaders to procure scarce supplies to fight the virus.
According to a participant, the article said, Kushner lambasted New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, telling the group that “Cuomo didn’t hammer the phones hard enough to get PPE for his condition … His people will suffer and that is their problem. “
Kasowitz denied that Kushner made such a remark, the first part of which was not included on the billboard.
“The Lincoln Project” representations of Trump and Kushner “are outrageous and shameful libel,” Kasowitz wrote to the group.
The group responded: “The level of indignation that Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have shown at Project Lincoln for revealing their indifference to the more than 223,000 people who have lost their lives as a result of their mismanagement recklessness of COVID-19 is comical. While we really like living rent-free in their heads, their empty threats won’t be taken any more seriously than we take Ivanka and Jared.
The statement went on to imply that they believed any legal challenge would prevail over the First Amendment grounds while lambasting the White House as well as Trump and Kushner, calling them “ authorized and disconnected bullies who never gave the slightest indication they have. any consideration for the American people.
“We plan to show them the same level of respect, ” It said.
