The House Jan. 6 committee is postponing its ninth public hearing into its investigation — originally scheduled for Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. ET — due to Hurricane Ian.

The hearing, once postponed, could conclude its presentations of the findings of the investigation before a final report expected later this year.

“In light of Hurricane Ian sweeping through parts of Florida, we have decided to postpone proceedings for tomorrow,” said President Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Vice President Liz Cheney. , R-Wyo., in a statement. “We pray for the safety of everyone in the storm’s path. The select committee’s investigation is progressing and we will announce a date for the postponed proceeding soon.”

The hearing would have marked its first since a series of successful presentations earlier this summer. The hearings saw the panel detail new evidence through testimony from former President Donald Trump’s top aides, advisers and allies. The hearings were intended to show that Trump had a much bigger role to play in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

Since the panel shared those findings, committee members have teased more hearings after their August recess to present evidence. However, only one had been set so far, and now the panel will have to postpone it to a later date.

Panel members also declined to elaborate on topics that could be addressed in this upcoming presentation.

Members also said they may release a list of recommendations in the coming weeks. And a final report is expected by the end of the year, along with potential joint hearings to detail those findings.
