Jamie Carragher has shared a worried response to news that Liverpool have lost Julian Ward at the end of the season.
Ward is currently the club’s sporting director but is now set to leave Anfield this summer, despite only taking up the job at the start of the year.

He has been at the club for over a decade and is believed to want a break from football, similar reasoning to the departure of his highly successful predecessor Michael Edwards.
Talk to sky sportsCarragher, who has made over 700 appearances for Liverpool, said: “It’s not ideal because I think when you talk about signing players, someone in that role is heavily involved not just at the moment, maybe -Being the January transfer window, you’re also talking about the summer.
“So it looks like a bit of a shock, and I think that’s a bit of a concern for Liverpool at the moment.”
The former defender added: “There seems to be a lot of upheaval behind the scenes in terms of ownership, Michael Edwards is gone, Julian Ward has come in to replace him, and now he’s gone as well.
“I don’t think it would be easy to get someone straight away and if it’s unexpected for Liverpool and it’s come as a shock, I’m sure they’re not prepared for something like that. right now.
“But, someone will fill that role and I hope he will be as successful in that role as Julian Ward and Michael Edwards have had in the past.”

Liverpool could now seek a new sporting director
Liverpool chairman Tom Werner recently confirmed that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are ‘exploring a sale’ of the club so Ward’s departure may not have come at the best time for them.
Their director of research, Ian Graham, also dealt the club a blow after he resigned from his post, his departure expected to come in May.
It should therefore be a big month of change for the Reds, with arch-rivals Manchester United also being put up for sale.
