Jake Paul is a name that just won’t leave the professional boxing and MMA world, and whether you love him or hate him, it looks like he’s here to stay for quite a while.
Youtuber Paul knocked out ex-UFC star Ben Askren in April in the first round of their bizarre exhibition fight.
The 24-year-old has certainly ruffled a few feathers during his controversial fury in the sports world so far and he is now on the hunt for his next opponent.
There is no shortage of names who are ready to step into the ring with the brash young American and set records.
But who will Paul face next? Here we take a look at potential opponents …
McGregor kicked off the entire UFC / boxing crossover in 2017 when he whipped world sport into a frenzy for his exhibition fight against fellow superstar Floyd Mayweather.
The full-back and the fourth in between were just spectacular in the preparation and the fight didn’t disappoint either before Mayweather claimed his victory in the tenth round.
Jake Paul certainly takes inspiration from McGregor’s personality and launched an attack after an attack on the Notorious.
Paul would clearly like to draw McGregor into a fight and get the payday that would go with him.
McGregor certainly has other things on his mind at the moment – mainly his trilogy against Dustin Poirier in July – but could indulge in Paul in the future.
While McGregor apparently won’t be performing anytime soon, Paul recently called out Irishman’s old rival Diaz.
Pushing him on social media, Paul will know he can easily get Diaz ascension and set up a narrative for the fight.
Diaz – who is set to face Leon Edwards at UFC 263 on June 12 – has been a keen observer of Paul’s exploits so far and is top of the list to face him next for now.
Facing Diaz, Paul said, “I think people are going to write me off immediately. Even someone watching this interview right now is like, ‘Oh, that kid is crazy. Nate Diaz is a dog, he’s gonna kill Jake, he’s crazy. But they’re going to log in and watch, right?
“Those are two massive names, and that would be a huge pay-per-view, and then when they see me erase it, their jaws will be released – they won’t know how to react.” They’ll think it’s rigged again.
“And at that point, I’ll be undeniable to fight Conor McGregor, because I beat the guy who beat you, Conor.” And the Jake Paul vs. Conor fight is a massive fight. I’m like, why wait? I don’t have to be in this sport forever. I’m not trying to get 100 fights. Let’s do the bigger fights right away. “
Critics of Paul want him to step into the ring with a real boxer next to really test his skills.
A name that apparently would fit the circus of it all perfectly would be Fury – not Tyson but his half-brother and 5-0 fighter Tommy.
Tommy is no stranger to stardom after his stint on Love Island.
But he is now focused on building a name for himself in the sport of boxing and has achieved five convincing victories to date.
He had his own social media beef with Paul and such a fight would certainly boost his global appeal.
Would the risk of losing and reducing his career be worth it?
Paul wanted to face UFC fighter Danis before his fight with Ben Askren was confirmed.
The two have clashed multiple times online and in person and Danis is desperate to “ save the MMA community ” by getting shot by Paul.
Similar to the Askren fight, this fight would be easy to book and rank, but it depends on whether Danis can scream louder than some more famous names.
Cormier is a wrestler by trade like Askren, but also a much better striker than his UFC mate.
DC came face to face with Paul at UFC 261 to try and put him back in order and might be convinced to fight.
Paul is enthusiastic and said, “Of course he’s going to bypass the boxing offer. And by the way, there is a lot more money in boxing, so we would make more money in a boxing match. And again, I am a boxer.
“I never said I would beat Daniel Cormier in an MMA fight. If he comes to box me, I will beat him.
“And maybe part of him knows that, that’s why it’s funny.” Why wouldn’t he accept this offer? If we fought it would be by far the most money he would earn in any of his fights.
Paul really showed his confidence knew no bounds by “ accepting ” a call from UFC Champion Usman.
Like many people in the MMA world, Usman, fresh off his brutal knockout of Jorge Masvidal, is clearly tired of the youngster.
He told TMZ he was more interested in ‘beating the shit’ of Jake Paul than facing Conor McGregor ‘and said he was looking for an excuse to punish these’ internet guys’ .
The YouTuber responded by writing on Twitter, “Challenge accepted.
“@ USMAN84kg if your boss Dana gives you permission to box me and make more money than ever, let me know and we can tie them up.” I promise this will be your biggest payday. “
