Jadon Sancho “doesn’t quite measure up” for Manchester United, former Premier League star Andy Townsend told talkSPORT.
Sancho has thrilled Bundesliga audiences with Borussia Dortmund, putting on world-class displays over the past four seasons, earning him a successful £ 73million transfer to Old Trafford.
However, the 21-year-old has failed to live up to the high standards he has set for himself since returning to England this summer.
The Three Lions international has appeared in United’s six games so far this season, not having scored a goal or an assist.
This is in stark contrast to his time in Germany, where he managed 50 goals and 64 assists during his 137-game career at Dortmund.
Former Chelsea Townsend midfielder believes Sancho has barely been involved for United so far, but the talent is still there.
“To be fair to Jadon Sancho, he hasn’t kicked the ball yet,” Townsend said.
“He struggled a bit, he didn’t quite get it all, he’s still a young man and there’s no doubt that his talent and his abilities, we’ve all seen him.
“He hasn’t quite put it together in a United shirt yet when he’s had a chance or two.”
Sancho has accumulated 238 minutes in the league and Champions League, with three starts and three replacement appearances.
However, he only managed two shots in that span and lost the ball eight times.
