Moldovan MMA fighter Luca Poclit shocked the world when he scored a unique submission victory on his Bellator debut last week.
The 33-year-old picked up one of the most bizarre wins of 2022 when he put opponent Dante Schiro to sleep with a never-before-seen choke in the first Bellator 285 fight which took place at Dublin’s 3Arena.
At the end of round two, Poclit was mounted but managed to explode before sitting up to his knees and grabbing Schiro’s head with his left arm in what appeared to be a chokehold attempt by Hail Mary. .
At this point it appeared the fight had stalled until the man who trains with UFC legend Conor McGregor at SBG Ireland freed his own head and positioned himself to apply pressure who finally put his opponent out.
Poclit was announced the winner by “modified arm triangle”, but it has since been revealed that the submission has a different name around his gym due to how often he uses it.
“I’ve done it many times in the gym, I admit I haven’t always been successful, but there are boys who still fell asleep even during training,” Poclit told talkSPORT.
“Anyway, the most important thing is that I managed to do it in the fight. I don’t know if it has a name, I’ve never seen this fighting technique before, but after the viral videos, I understand that everyone calls him “Luca-Nator”.
Poclit claims it was not a submission technique he was taught and he simply invented it after years of wrestling experience.
“I can’t say anyone taught me,” he added.
“I have a lot of experience, I have been doing freestyle wrestling since I was 9 years old, so now I have reached the level where I have a lot of fighting techniques in my luggage which are very difficult to perform for most athletes and who even I have a hard time explaining.
After picking up a viral win on his Bellator debut, the 8-1 fighter is set to continue his journey which he hopes will culminate in the return of a title to his gym for “the best trainer in the game.” world, John Kavanagh”.
“I want to reach the belt as soon as possible. I want to bring the belt to the SBG gym as soon as possible,” Poclit concluded.
While it’s not yet clear when Poclit will return to action, a few things are clear.
Fighters around the world are trying to learn her unique submission right now and her potential opponents are scrambling to find a way to defend against her.
