Indiana plans to open courts before next season, and the working assumption is that they will meet those needs through the transfer portal in the spring.

But there are a few big men from the Class of 2022 still available, and at least one is on IU staff’s radar.

Orangeville Prep (Mono, Ont.) center Jeremy Foumena told The Daily Hoosier that assistant coach Yasir Rosemond will be watching him this weekend when he competes in the 2022 National Prep School Invitational in Rhode Island.

The 6ft 11in Foumena was born in France and lived there for nine years before moving to Canada. He grew up playing soccer at a young age before discovering basketball after moving to North America.

On film, he is a versatile center who rebounds high, can go out in transition, rebound high and has a refined return-to-the-basket game. He also appears to be a capable perimeter shooter from both the midrange and the 3-point line. With a wingspan of 7ft 2in, Foumena is also a solid rim protector.

Playing for the top prep school in Canada, Foumena averages a double-double.

For the Spring and Summer AAU Basketball, Foumena played for the Georgia Stars on the Nike EYBL Tour. He joined this program after playing a year of prep basketball in the South, and this program is likely his connection to Rosemond, who came to IU from Georgia.

Foumena was a bit late. He recently received an offer from central Florida and, in addition to Indiana, has interests from Rhode Island, Georgetown, Illinois, Oregon, Marquette and DePaul.

He said multiple coaches will be coming to see him this weekend with Indiana, and he’ll be an interesting player to watch as schools look for late additions at center to cap their 2022 class.
