Paul Ince insists Erik ten Hag and his Manchester United side showed a ‘disrespect’ after the FA Cup fourth round tie last weekend.
The Red Devils beat Ince Reading 3-1 at Old Trafford with a brace from Casemiro and another from Fred.
Fred was on course for Manchester United in their 3-1 FA Cup win over Reading
But Reading’s exit wasn’t the only thing that upset former United midfielder Ince as Ten Hag’s lack of hospitality after the match seemed to leave a bitter taste.
Ince was left puzzled when the Dutchman didn’t invite him for a glass of wine, as is customary among a host of English football managers.
“I went straight to Sir Alex [Ferguson] because I got a text from him afterwards to say ‘come see me’,” Ince said in a press conference ahead of this weekend’s Championship clash with Watford.
“So me, my wife and Thomas [Ince] went up there and spent an hour with him. I was disappointed as none of the United staff asked me for a glass of wine. I didn’t like that, it’s a lack of respect.
“Whoever it is, win, lose or draw, you say come for a drink. Whether it’s wine or tea, it doesn’t matter.
“None of their staff did, so that was disappointing. I couldn’t give a monkey but I’m just proud of myself as a manager whether you get beat or not you say come in for a glass of wine.
Paul Ince’s pre-game smiles were then wiped away after Ten Hag’s lack of hospitality
But it wasn’t all negative from Ince who reserved praise for Ten Hag for turning United’s fortunes around this season.
He added: “Ten Hag in a short time elevated the club. The last two or three years have been difficult for United fans.
“Ten Hag started closing that gap. They begin to be present about them. It’s important, if you go back to the Fergie years, there was a presence.
United face Crystal Palace this weekend as the battle for Champions League qualification intensifies.
Ten Hag’s side are currently fourth with just one goal difference separating them from third-placed Newcastle.
