Red Bull has cut away part of the leading edge of the front wing’s upper flap as it seeks to balance the downforce level of the car, front to rear, to match the changes made to the rear wing.

The Aston Martin AMR22 is fitted with a Kiel probe rake between the front wheel assembly and the sidepods as the team seeks to gather data that will corroborate the performance seen with the simulation tools or help them with the correlation .

McLaren slathered its low downforce rear wing with flow-effect green paint during FP1 to get visual confirmation that the wing is working as intended.

Sparks fly as the W13’s floor meets the track surface as the car compresses. Also note that the rear wing has an upper flap that has been cut off at the trailing edge and then a Gurney flap applied to it.

It’s a similar story for Aston Martin as the forces are transmitted to the AMR22 as it makes its way around the Temple of Speed. Flo-viz can also be seen on the rear fender, as it looks to confirm that its aero design efforts have worked.

Williams painted the flow visualization on his low-downforce rear wing to determine if it performs as intended. You’ll notice, as others have, the team opted to cut the trailing edge off the top flap and add a Gurney for balance.

Alfa Romeo uses a rear wing configuration similar to that of Spa, with an abbreviated wingtip transition. However, what differs is that the trailing edge of the top flap has been cut.
