One of the best moments of WWE’s PG era was the return of Dwayne Johnson after his transformation into the greatest actor in the world. Years ago he didn’t like Hulk Hogan for becoming Hollywood Hogan because of his movies. But he too took the same path.

Looking back on it now, it was one of the best things for WWE as a whole. Bringing one of the world’s top stars to the main event of WrestleMania has been amazing for sales and fans alike.

However, for years CM Punk had been looking forward to the main event of WrestleMania. But last year, despite being champion, John Cena and The Rock had the stage, and the same thing was going to happen the following year. In response to this, WWE gave Punk a chance to be part of one of the best Undertaker matches.

While everyone, including the fans and CM Punk, hated that “The Rock” stripped him of his title, in hindsight, it all turned out amazing. That’s exactly what one of the wrestling industry’s biggest commentators also thinks.

Around the time CM Punk was Jim Ross on his popular podcast, Grilling JR said, “I haven’t heard any issues about The Rock working with him. Rock wanted to work with him because punk was hot. If you want to win, you want to beat someone.
“And for rock, beating punk was showing that The Great One was beating someone. It was perfect booking in that respect…which is why I question the validity of those sweeping statements that the talents didn’t like punk.”

CM Punk was a big reason people turned to wrestling and WWE during his long reign. His reign, which began with the 5-Star Match with John Cena at Money in the Bank, was an absolute delight. It was the time when WWE ran out of ideas and inventive ways to get Cena out, and making Punk their champion made perfect sense.
He sold arenas and merchandise and put on a hell of a show.
