‘It could take Liverpool out of the equation’ – Jude Bellingham’s contract at Borussia Dortmund could sabotage Anfield transfer, claims Simon Jordan

Simon Jordan believes Liverpool could be left out of a move to sign Jude Bellingham if the Borussia Dortmund midfielder doesn’t have a release clause in his contract.

The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Signal Iduna Park in 2023 after his fantastic start to the season.

Bellingham scored nine goals in 22 games for BVB in all competitions while helping England to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

But his Bundesliga future is in question, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid all claiming to love the teenager.

And Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said on Tuesday he was also keen to secure the services of the ex-Birmingham star.

But talkSPORT’s Jordan insisted he believed only one club would be able to match Dortmund’s exorbitant price tag.

Speaking on White and Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman said: “Normally you would expect a release clause.

“Because they are now talking about this deal being made between £100m and £150m, which is ridiculous money, but let’s just say it is.

“I’m amazed that Bellingham’s agent didn’t put a release clause because as we know, the lower the transfer fee, the more benefits the player will receive for his particular contract.

“So I’m amazed that they’re on that scale of things, but clearly they are. This may well exclude and exclude Liverpool from the equation.

“Because if you win £150m, there’s probably a club he would go to who would be willing to pay that, and that would be Manchester City.”

Jordan also said he only sees Bellingham leaving Germany for England or Spain as he rules out the player joining Paris Saint-Germain.

He remarked: “I don’t think he ends up at PSG without disrespecting Nasser and his football club. I think he ends up either in Spain or in England.

“I’d like to think it’s England because we produced that talent – Birmingham City produced that talent.

“And he went to Germany and chose a path that I think is quite commendable.

“Because he could have gone to Chelsea and Manchester United and looked good on paper, but maybe he doesn’t have the playing time he got in Germany.

“I think there are more compelling leagues than the French league for him. If he wants to go and play for PSG’s Harlem Globetrotters, I think that’s one thing.

“I think if he wants to go and play – again with the best of due respect – an important football week in and week out, I think the Premier League or La Liga are the two destinations I would advocate for him.”
