Multi-talented artist and designer Isaac Mizrahi will debut at New York club 54 Below tomorrow, performing there every night at 7 p.m. until Saturday, August 13.
According to the club, Mizrahi will perform an eclectic range of music from Billie Eilish, Stephen Sondheim and Milton Nascimento, among others, and “say everything from social media to sex and what’s going on in these crazy times.”
Mizrahi, who has performed at other clubs in New York as well as City Wineries in the United States, is the co-creator and subject of the documentary. He has also written three books and a memoir, I AM, published in 2019; served as a judge on “Project Runway: All Stars”; and hosted his own television talk show.
In a phone interview last week, Mizrahi said he’s been performing since he was a kid, “before I made clothes”, before performing in “little, tiny clubs that don’t exist. more”. I love it so much, it’s really fun.“
One of the reasons he loves performing in nightclubs, he said, is “you never know what’s going to happen.”
He said he recently started answering questions from his audience. “It really happens in real time. There’s something incredibly funny and inspiring about it, very adult, not for kids,” he explained.
Mizrahi said he expected his performances at 54 Below to be both intimate and laid back, “because it’s August. There’s something about the hot weather in New York, a sweltering night and hot.
He also said he expected his audience “to want the opportunity to sit down and enjoy the show, without thinking about the pandemic, to have the opportunity to be in a room, to be able to dine and drink, really have fun”.
54 Below recently received a 2022 Tony Honor for Excellence in Theater.
