Here are the top stories from Orange County today:
- Will Hollywood come to Garden Grove? The city council wants to see more Hollywood films on site in Garden Grove. When city council meets on Tuesday, one of the topics will be a discussion of the city’s film regulations and a proposal to “explore opportunities to increase filming opportunities.” Movies have been shot in Orange County as far back as the silent movie era, but the best-known OC movie was ‘That Thing You Do’, produced by Tom Hanks, which was filmed in and around Old Town of Orange. (ORANGE COUNTY TRIBUNE)
- You don’t have to be a surf champion to participate in a fun surf competition. This weekend, the 2022 Amateur-Only Surfing Championships kick off at 8 a.m. on September 24-25. The City of Newport Beach Senior Recreation and Services Department and Salty Crew present the 2022 Surfing Championships exclusively for amateur surfers. (Register today! (Burbio)
- Scientists say a new fault along the coast of Orange County and Los Angeles could shake things up. Researchers say the recently discovered fault zone along the coast could cause a “San Andreas scale” earthquake of magnitude 7.8 along the Los Angeles and OC coasts. Scientists say the fault system “runs nearly 70 miles along the coast of Los Angeles and Orange counties.” The study is the latest research to highlight the seismic threats facing Southern California. The best thing we can do is be prepared. (Los Angeles Times)
