UPDATE: The issues affecting Instagram today have now been resolved.
Reports from Down Detector on Instagram have dropped sharply, indicating that the issues plaguing the app have now been resolved.
While an Instagram spokesperson has confirmed to us that a technical issue that was causing the problems reported by users has now been resolved.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, a representative for the photo-sharing app said: “Earlier today a technical issue caused some people to have problems accessing Instagram. We’ve fixed the issue. problem as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
ORIGINAL: Reports of inactivity on Instagram are on the rise today, with users of the Meta-owned app running Android claiming that the program keeps crashing and not working for them.
Independent outage monitor Down Detector saw a huge spike in Instagram outage reports which began around 6pm UK time.
At the time of this writing, Down Detector UK has seen a peak of around 10,000 Instagram down reports.
While according to statistics from Down Detector, problems with Instagram are reported in UK, US and Europe.
When the problems with Instagram hit, users took to Twitter to talk about the issues they were facing.
One tweeted, “I just slapped my wifi router to realize Instagram was down. #instagramdown.”
While another posted: “Are you running on Twitter to see if Instagram is down for someone else?”
One added, “Twitter is king again! #instagramdown.”
And another wrote: ‘Everyone trying to refresh Instagram until we realize it’s down #instagramdown’.
Express.co.uk has reached out to Instagram for comment and asked if a fix is in the works.
The reported issues with Instagram come a day after users of another Meta-owned app encountered issues with the service.
Wednesday, September 21 WhatsApp users have reported issues with the popular messaging appsaying the chat and voice calls feature was not working for them.
Once again when these issues hit Down Detector, it recorded thousands of reports that WhatsApp was down.
But the problem appeared to be short-lived, which a WhatsApp spokesperson told Express.co.uk shortly after problems were first reported that the services were working well.
