Luxury fashion designer Dior will open his first Irish boutique at Brown Thomas on Grafton Street in Dublin this fall.
The store will be located in one of Brown Thomas’ most prominent locations – on the corner of Grafton Street and Wicklow Street in a section currently occupied by beauty brand Mac.
The high-end French label, founded in 1946 and favorite of celebrities such as actors Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard, will sell accessories such as jewelry, sunglasses and especially women’s handbags which typically cost several thousand. euros.
The opening, slated for October, will give a much needed boost to Grafton Street, which currently has several empty units due to the closure of stores owned by several UK chains.
Brown Thomas fashion director Shelly Corkery said the group had been working to bring Dior to Dublin for two years. She said buyers were making big purchases, despite the pandemic.
“People now know what they want,” she said. “They think more about their purchase, think smarter, and maybe buy less but buy better.” Ms Corkery said Dior had been a “big missing link” in its designer line and that the brand would now be found alongside its Hermès, Chanel and Louis Vuitton boutiques on Wicklow Street.
Dior is a leading brand among Instagrammers, making it popular among younger buyers with expensive tastes. The Dior saddle bag, which came into vogue in the early 2000s, is particularly in demand at the moment.
