Disney and Lucasfilm today revealed that their fifth IndianaJones The film, which is scheduled for theatrical release on June 30, 2023, is called Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate – unveiling at the same time the first trailer and still images of the expected title.
Although details about the new IndianaJones The film’s plot has not been formally described, it is the fifth title in a worldwide adventure franchise starring Harrison Ford as the legendary archaeologist hero of the same name. James Mangold (Ford versus Ferrari, Logan) shot, also starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Flea bag), Antonio Banderas (pain and glory), John Rhys-Davies (The Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther), Thomas Kretschmann (Das Boot), Toby Jones (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Oliver Richter (Black Widow), Ethan Isidore (Deadly) and Mads Mikkelsen (Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets).
Lucasfilm’s Mangold, Ford, Waller-Bridge and Kathleen Kennedy first teased the new IndianaJones film via a theatrical-only trailer presentation at Anaheim’s D23. Ford appeared very emotional, saying, “I’m very proud to say this one is fantastic, and that’s one of the reasons,” before pointing the finger at Waller-Bridge.
“Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they’re also about heart,” he continued, “and I’m really, really happy that we have a really human story to tell, as well as ‘a movie that will kick your ass.’
Ford later indicated that it would be his last film in the franchise. “That’s it,” said the impassive octogenarian. “I won’t fall for you anymore.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate was written by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth and Mangold. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel produced, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers, and John Williams returning as songwriter, having scored every Indy adventure since the original The Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981.
