Christopher Nolan’s groundbreaking 2010 film Inception has one of the most unforgettable cliffhanger endings in recent film history. It is impossible to say if the character of Leonardo DiCaprio ever returned to his children with his lack of final resolution.
In a renewed interview with Variety in 2014, DiCaprio himself, however, revealed that he believes his character has come back to life.
The conclusion to Nolan’s Inception is one of the most debated accounts in the world of cinema. Opinions are divided on whether DiCaprio’s character Dominick Cobb in the final scene returned to the kids.
In the film, DiCaprio is last seen walking towards his children as his totem pole spins and swings behind him. Because the film is cut before it stops filming, it is not known whether Cobb is drawing or not. DiCaprio himself believes his boss is returning him to his children.
“I had my own interpretation, and that’s why I got down to reality,” DiCaprio said. “I had to make my own choice on that one, yes.”
Christopher Nol intentionally made the ‘creation’ ambiguous
Even though DiCaprio has his own take on the film’s ending, he’s sure to remind people that the ending was intentionally left ambiguous.
“But of course it’s been set from the start that Christopher – I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s supposed to be ambiguous,” DiCaprio added. “You know, you’re supposed to extract whatever you wanted from this ending.”
Christopher Nolan kept ‘Inception’ development top-secret
Nolan is known to be secretive with his productions. He shares virtually any information about what he is working on with the public or his peers. DiCaprio recalled how secret the stages of Inception’s development were.
“I saw the script, it was kind of a top-secret script, absolutely,” DiCaprio said. “… I think he built that storyline many, many years before and even before BATEN, before Dark Knight, and then sort of reworked it. … ”
Leonardo DiCaprio and Christopher Nolan worked hard to develop the role of DiCaprio
After writing the screenplay, DiCaprio and Nolan delved deep into DiCaprio’s character, working to clarify who he was.
“For both of us, it was a way to find the role inside of that,” DiCaprio said. “And we had to sit down for two months and kind of bring out all the kind of subplot of… my character has this… life in his own subconscious with his wife, where he almost had an entire relationship in another. life that continued, but all in his mind.
‘The Creation’ is about to try to get revenge on his family
It’s easy to find your way around Inception’s dizzying visuals and dense subplots, but the story of the film is very straightforward. Basically, the movie might be trying to do all it can to bring its kids home.
DiCaprio and Nolan both felt this was an important part of the film’s storytelling to highlight.
“That was sort of what was most important for both of us in the pre-production process, was bringing that script through as much as we could into the kind of amazing matrix of phenomenal things Chris did.” in this movie, ”said DiCaprio sаid. “It’s kind of mind-blowing what he achieved in this movie.”
