Ilkay Gundogan made sure Phil Foden had his moment in the spotlight by stealing the match ball from fellow full-time Manchester derby hat-trick hero Erling Haaland.
Manchester City beat Manchester United 6-3, with Foden and Haaland each scoring three goals and going wild against their bewildered rivals.
After the final whistle, the Norwegian – who also scored two goals for Foden – picked up the match ball and walked around with it, cheering the delighted City supporters.
Of course, Haaland wasn’t the only one to score a hat-trick against the Red Devils in the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon.
Foden’s hat-trick was his first for City since his debut in 2017 as he opened the scoring in the eighth minute and scored again in the 44th and 72nd.
But one of the pair’s teammates made sure the City academy product got some of the glory too, as the team walked around and cheered on their supporters.
Midfielder Gundogan went to hug Haaland, and after that he grabbed the ball.
The Germany international then threw it towards an unsuspecting Foden, with Gundogan clearly wanting him to have his moment with him too.
Foden was surprised when the ball hit him, but happily agreed and smiled as he followed behind Haaland to cheer the fans with the ball under his arm.
The 22-year-old’s hat-trick also saw him break one of Lionel Messi’s records.
And speaking after the game, Haaland, another hat-trick hero, agreed that he and Foden should share the game ball.
“It wasn’t bad…we scored six goals,” he said.
“What can you say? It’s unbelievable. It’s good. You see that we always want to go forward and attack.
“That’s what I like about the team. We always want to attack. I think we need to have two match balls for the man of the match.
“One ball for the first half and one ball for the second half.”
In the end, Haaland got his wish as the match officials handed them a ball each.
Haaland shared a photo of him and Foden in the locker room after the stunning derby victory, in which they posed with two balls.
Both players had their memorabilia signed by their teammates.
Haaland captioned the post on Instagram: “Manchester is blue!”
