Ian Wright’s funny response to Alan Shearer as Newcastle legend teases Arsenal icon that grandson D’Margio Wright-Phillips is a better footballer than him after Stoke’s goal against Middlesbrough

Ian Wright has sent a funny reply to Alan Shearer after the Newcastle legend teased him saying his grandson is better than him.

They were rivals as players, but Shearer and Wright struck up a friendship in the pundit world.

The grandson of Arsenal icon D’Margio Wright-Phillips was successful as a professional and equalized at the last minute in Stoke’s draw with Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

Wright was reportedly beaming with pride in his grandson, but Shearer saw this as an opportunity to poke fun at his mate.

Shearer texted Wright saying, “He’s better than you. He is better than you. D’Margio Wright-Phillips, he’s better than you.

And Wright hilariously replied, “F off @AlanShearer,” posting the response on Twitter while attaching a screenshot of the message.

D’Margio is the son of former Manchester City and Chelsea star Shaun Wright-Phillips, who is Wright’s son.

The 20-year-old celebrated his second league goal in the 2-2 draw, capped off with an acrobatic celebration.

Wright has two sons who became professional footballers with his younger brother Bradley Wright-Phillips representing clubs such as Man City and Southampton in England.

He then joined the New York Red Bulls in 2013 and spent the rest of his career in the United States until his retirement in 2022.
