WWE Clash At The Castle could be redemption for Drew McIntyre – after the inaugural event ended in karaoke with Tyson Fury.

The Scottish Warrior is expected to be the company’s main draw for its first ever premium WWE event in Glasgow this summer.

McIntyre also main-evented the original Clash at the Castle in 2022 against then-undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns in Wales.

The Rangers superfan was unsuccessful in Cardiff, but many fans subsequently became obsessed with what happened next rather than the match itself.

In the final footage of WWE’s first show in a British stadium in three decades, McIntyre engaged in an impromptu chant with WBC champion Fury after Reigns left the ring.

The duo – who had insulted and called each other out years before – bizarrely kissed before singing American Pie together.

The unusually happy ending caught fans off guard given that McIntyre had just lost a huge match in front of a British crowd.

Asked if the duo was supposed to be shown on live TV, McIntyre told talkSPORT: “Not the way it happened.

“It’s definitely not how I imagined the biggest disappointment of my life immediately after singing karaoke with Fury, but at the same time, people were just gutted.

“Then he would try to sing this song and I could either join in with everyone who was upset, send everyone home even more miserable – or inflame them and try to start a riot…

“Or I could just do my best to make them happy, so I chose to try to put a smile on people’s faces, even if it killed me inside.”

McIntyre, who is the first British WWE World Champion, has never been able to bring the belt back to the UK in the three times he has held it.

His first two reigns took place behind closed doors in 2020, and he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Seth Rollins at WrestleMania XL earlier this month.

This triumph lasted just five minutes before Damian Priest successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to win gold.

McIntyre added to talkSPORT: “It’s still a bit far away, but I want to get my hands on the title – what better place than in Glasgow.”

Backlash: France airs Saturday, May 4 on WWE Network and TNT Sports Box Office.

Tickets for WWE SmackDown & Clash at the Castle: Scotland at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on Friday June 14 and Saturday June 15 are available next Friday from Ticketmaster.co.uk.
