It may have been hot at the World Cup in Qatar, but Australian star Jackson Irvine needed to cool off after a hilarious on-air gaffe.
The former Hull City, Hibernian and Ross County midfielder played a key role for the Socceroos as they progressed to the round of 16 past Denmark and Tunisia.
A shock 1-0 win over the Danes saw them reach the knockout stages where they will now face Argentina.
Aussies were understandably thrilled with the wild scenes at 4 a.m. in their home country.
But there were to be no beers for their heroes.
Manager Graham Arnold said after the match: “No celebrations, no emotion, sleep, no social media.”
And Irvine echoed his manager but forgot he was live on TV with News Breakfast host Tony Armstrong.
“At the moment there won’t be much fun, I will start my recovery straight away,” he said.
“Ice baths? Armstrong asked.
“Yeah literally, freeze my balls a bit, that’s how I enjoy it.”
Quickly, however, Irvine realized his mistake.
He added: “No, just focus on the next one, there will be a time to reflect…sorry, I forgot I’m live too!
“We will have time to enjoy it at the end of the tournament, but we will only focus on the next one.
With Armstrong laughing in the background, Irvine added, “I need one. [ice bath] now I’m sweating!
