Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’ with Ryan Reynolds

Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’, Ryan Reynolds announced on his social media on Tuesday afternoon. “Deadpool 3” also has an official release date: September 6, 2024.

“Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed out on D23, but we’ve been working really hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ movie for quite a while now,” Reynolds says in the video, referring to the D23 Expo in early September. . . “I had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously has to feel special. We have to stay true to character, find new depth, motivation, meaning. Every “Deadpool” must stand out and stand out. It was an incredible challenge that forced me to dive deep inside. And I… I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty here. And terrifying. But we had an idea.

“Hey Hugh, do you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asks as Jackman passes in the background.

“Yeah sure, Ryan,” Jackman replies. The video ends with “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston – subtitled “I will always love Hughes— and a “Coming Hughn” teaser. The Deadpool logo appears, then is quickly sliced open by Wolverine’s adamantium claws.

Shawn Levy, who directed “Free Guy” and “The Adam Project” with Reynolds, is directing “Deadpool 3,” which will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first two “Deadpool” films, have returned to write the third. Reese previously confirmed that “Deadpool 3” will remain R-rated, even within the family MCU.

The last time X-Men fans saw Jackman as Wolverine was in 2016’s R-rated “Logan,” directed by James Mangold. Wolverine died at the end of the film, and Jackman has repeatedly said that the film was his swansong in the role. It is therefore unknown how he will appear in “Deadpool 3”. But the character is best known for repeatedly breaking the fourth wall — on film and in the comics — and as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently said. Variety, “Anything is possible in the multiverse.”

Reynolds and Jackman have a long superhero history together. The “Deadpool” star first appeared as a character in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” which was the first “X-Men” spin-off to focus on the Jackman character. This version of Deadpool, however, had a sewn-on mouth and lacked his signature red and black costume. Several years later, Reynolds got another turn as a wise assassin in a proper, R-rated “Deadpool” movie.

The “Deadpool” films are the highest-grossing “X-Men” titles of all time, each earning over $780 million worldwide. The first two films, which debuted in 2016 and 2018, respectively, were released by 20th Century Fox before Disney acquired the studio.
