Huawei’s new phone sports the latest version of a China-made chip – Caixin Global

(Bloomberg) — Latest smartphones from Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. are equipped with a version of the advanced Chinese-made processor it unveiled last year, an independent analysis has found, underscoring the Chinese company’s ability to maintain production of the controversial chip.

Huawei’s Pura 70 series unveiled last week sports the Kirin 9010 processor, consultancy TechInsights discovered during a teardown of the device. This is a newer version of the Kirin 9000 manufactured by Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. for the Mate 60 Pro, which alarmed officials in Washington who believed a 7-nanometer chip was beyond China’s capabilities.
