In 2014, Huawei introduced the TalkBand B1, a smart band that was also a Bluetooth headset. There have been several generations of the TalkBand since, but now the company has revealed it’s working on something sleeker – the Huawei Watch Buds.

It’s a smart band, it’s a Bluetooth headset, it’s the Huawei TalkBand B6

The name is pretty descriptive, but here’s an official teaser video. A proper round smartwatch with two earphones inside. It looks sleeker than the TalkBand and is also more convenient, as you can also listen to music (the band’s single earbud isn’t ideal).

The watch acts as a charging case for the buds. If you pause the video after 6 seconds, you will see icons showing buds and a lightning bolt symbol below.

Smartwatches already struggle with battery life, how much power can one have to spare for the earbuds, especially when said earbuds take up a good chunk of the internal volume? We can’t answer that yet, but somehow a YouTube channel claims to have gotten its hands on the Huawei Watch Buds and offers a quick look.

The watch looks quite chunky as you would expect considering it’s also a case for TWS heads. The frame is said to be in steel, the strap is in leather. The watch is “Powered by HarmonyOS” and its design is reminiscent of the Huawei Watch 3.

The Huawei Watch Buds will be officially unveiled at an event in December and it won’t be the only one – Huawei has a watch for kids too. The company has shared a teaser image, which shows off an interesting design.

The watch is detachable from the strap using a pair of clips and it looks like it has two faces: one is a color screen, the other looks like an old-school LCD screen. This will do wonders for battery life (and sunlight readability), while still offering full smartwatch capabilities with quick turnaround.

Note that there are also two cameras on board. One is not unusual on a child’s watch, it allows mum and dad to check in via video call. A second camera is sometimes included for capturing photos and video, but framing the shot with something strapped to your wrist is inconvenient. The detachable design will really help in this regard.

The Huawei Kids Watch 5X series will also be unveiled in December.
