Huawei reportedly forms union of automakers to promote ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles – HC Newsroom

Huawei has reportedly created a union of some automakers to promote ultra-fast charging technology for electric vehicles. This is not the first time that the tech giant aims to take smart car charging facilities to the next level with better actions.

The report said that Huawei announced this automaker union at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, highlighting the issue of ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles.

Around ten Chinese automobile industries, including BYD, are part of this alliance. Huawei formed this association not only to encourage the development of electric vehicle chargers in China, but also to make them more innovative and user-friendly.

It seems that Huawei will mainly make efforts in the field of ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles, while others will continue to build electric vehicles. The tech giant’s Digital Power unit already has chargers with output power capacities of 360 kW, 480 kW and 600 kW.

Compared with ordinary chargers ranging from 60 to 200 kW, Huawei has better electric vehicle charging technology. On this subject, an EV station sign in China states:

“Your car will be ready to go by the time you finish having coffee.”

An initial report suggested that Huawei aimed to deploy around 100,000 electric vehicle chargers in China by the end of this year. These charging stations should move ahead of regular gas stations and will be compatible with all kinds of car brands.

Developing ultra-fast charging stations takes time and money. To help, the Shenzhen government is now offering subsidies to developers as well as more space.

Huawei also plans to overcome supply chain issues for silicon carbide SiC chips, which effectively reduce power consumption compared to other chips in electric vehicle chargers.
